Arrecife Prepares for World Cup Final with Special Parking and Security Measures
In Arrecife, a large parking area has been opened near Vía Medular and the Las Salinas neighbourhood to accommodate fans attending the World Cup 2026 final between Spain and Argentina at the theme park on Sunday, July 19. The local council has expressed gratitude to private landowners for allowing the temporary use of their properties due to the expected high turnout.
Mario González Altube, the Councillor for Mobility and Transport, announced that there will be vehicle access restrictions and traffic diversions around the avenue near El Reducto theme park to ensure safety during the event. Additionally, the coastal area between the Insular Hospital and Puerto Naos will be affected due to the Virgin del Carmen maritime procession.
On Saturday, Mayor Yonathan de León chaired a coordination meeting to finalise security arrangements for the final match day. Participants included councillors from various departments and representatives from the local police, national police, and civil protection services.
The council has urged citizens and visitors to join the festivities at the theme park to support the Spanish team. The match will be shown on large screens set up at the Lava Live event, with musical performances and DJ sessions planned before kick-off at 18:00.
The enthusiasm is high after Spain’s 2-0 victory over France in the semi-finals, which attracted thousands to the Lava Live venue. The council noted that this event had the highest public participation for viewing gatherings in Lanzarote.
Following the semi-final success, the mayor has once again invited the community and football fans to attend the final, with expectations of a sizeable turnout to cheer on Spain in their quest for another World Cup title.
