Accidents at work are on the rise in Lanzarote, although serious incidents and fatalities have seen a decline this year. According to the latest figures from Lanzarote’s Data Centre, which are based on reports from the Canarian government, there were 1,430 reported workplace accidents from January to July 2026. This marks a 6.4% increase from the 1,344 accidents recorded during the same period in 2025.
While there is an overall rise in accidents, the statistics reveal a significant drop in more serious incidents. Minor accidents rose from 1,338 in 2025 to 1,427 in 2026, a 6.65% increase. In contrast, serious accidents fell from five in early 2025 to just three in the first seven months of this year.
Notably, there have been no severe or fatal workplace accidents in 2026, a positive change following a fatal incident recorded in the previous year. March saw the highest number of total accidents this year with 230, closely followed by May (224) and January (210). The three serious accidents occurred in January, March, and July.
Overall, while the total number of workplace incidents has risen, there is evidence of improved safety measures leading to fewer severe accidents.
