New Canarias-Block Canarista (NC-BC) calls for a radiodiagnostic service to be introduced at Tías Health Centre, urging Canary Islands MP Yoné Caraballo to support this appeal in the Health Commission.
At the same time, the party has requested Caraballo, who is also a candidate for the presidency of Lanzarote’s Island Council, to arrange an official visit to the health centre. This visit aims to assess its needs, meet staff, and later report findings to the Health Commission, advocating for the establishment of a radiodiagnostic service.
The NC-BC highlights the urgency of this request based on numerous complaints from local residents who feel frustrated when they have to travel to the Hospital Universitario Doctor José Molina Orosa in Arrecife for an X-ray after visiting the emergency department.
Juan de León, the NC-BC spokesperson in Tías, stated, “It is incomprehensible that Tías, with a 24-hour emergency service, lacks a radiodiagnostic facility. This shortcoming leads to unnecessary trips, delays diagnoses, and increases pressure on the Molina Orosa hospital.”
The Tías Health Centre serves not only local residents but also the nearby communities of Puerto del Carmen, Macher, and others, all under additional strain due to high tourist activity year-round. A radiodiagnostic service could further support patients from nearby municipalities like San Bartolomé and Tinajo, reducing travel to the hospital for basic radiological tests and easing the hospital’s workload.
NC-BC believes that introducing this service would significantly enhance healthcare for the area’s residents, cutting down on hundreds of unnecessary hospital visits.
Furthermore, they note that this service would benefit not just emergency patients; patients could also be referred from Molina Orosa for radiological studies, helping to alleviate the hospital’s demands while bringing healthcare closer to the community.
Juan de León added, “Administrations must plan healthcare with the future in mind. Tías has seen substantial population growth and is a key tourism hub. It’s time to provide healthcare services that reflect this reality.”
He concluded, “Public healthcare should be accessible, not force people to travel for basic diagnostic tests. Tías has the necessary population and tourism profile to support its own radiodiagnostic service, enhancing healthcare in southern Lanzarote and helping to relieve pressure on Molina Orosa.”
Consequently, NC-BC will advocate for this initiative through MP Yoné Caraballo in the Health Commission, aiming for the Canary Islands Government’s commitment to provide Tías Health Centre with a radiodiagnostic service, which is viewed as essential for improving care quality, reducing waiting times, and enhancing accessibility for residents.
