Amazon Prime Video has released a new film, ‘Apocalipsis Z: Nuevo mundo’, which centres on Lanzarote and La Graciosa amidst a zombie invasion. Premiering on Friday, 30 October, the Spanish production transforms the islands into a critical setting where the government struggles to maintain order as a virus plunges much of Europe into chaos.
In the film’s opening scenes, a title card informs viewers that quarantine efforts have failed on both islands, forcing the government to implement drastic measures to contain the outbreak. This fictional scenario places the two territories of the archipelago at the heart of a large-scale health crisis.
The plot depicts the Canary Islands as Europe’s last refuge following the spread of the TSJ virus. With the mainland in disarray, a military mission heads to Madrid for vital supplies. Carlos Alcaide stars as Roberto, who joins the expedition that quickly turns into a fight for survival against both the infected and internal conflicts.
Directed by Carles Torrens and written by Ángel Agudo, ‘Apocalipsis Z: Nuevo mundo’ expands upon the universe of ‘Apocalipsis Z: El principio del fin’, inspired by the novels of Galician author Manel Loureiro. The cast includes Julia Martínez, Mónica López, Tamara Casellas, Santiago Vaca Narvaja, Berta Vázquez, and José María Yazpik.
Produced by Nostromo Pictures, the film debuted on Prime Video following its screening at the Sitges Film Festival. Shot in both Catalonia and the Canary Islands, Lanzarote and La Graciosa are featured in this major cinematic offering for Halloween, though not as tourist destinations, but as locations embroiled in an emergency threatening humanity.
