The Canary Islands Government and the INCYDE Foundation of the Spanish Chambers of Commerce recently celebrated the conclusion of the “PRECE Canarias: Entrepreneurship in Podcasting” programme. This initiative aims to enhance the business and digital skills of entrepreneurs across the archipelago.
Javier Collado Cortés, the director of the INCYDE Foundation, praised the projects showcased, while Manuel Alexis Oliva Hernández, the Government of the Canary Islands’ director of Economic Promotion and Diversification, emphasised the need for continued support for programmes that tech-enable and diversify the islands’ economic landscape. José Torres Fuentes, president of the University Foundation of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, also attended the event, which took place in their facilities.
This training aligns with a strategic agreement made in 2025 between the Canary Islands’ Ministry of Economic Affairs and the INCYDE Foundation to implement 14 targeted programmes aimed specifically at fostering entrepreneurship in partnership with local Chambers of Commerce. The initiative is co-funded by the European Union through the European Social Fund Plus, part of the Canary Islands’ regional programme.
The training course, conducted in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce from 1 June to 10 July 2026, successfully trained 29 local entrepreneurs. The curriculum covered essential skills for business viability, including strategic planning, corporate finance, digital marketing, and technical podcast production.
During the event, two entrepreneurial projects were presented, showcasing local creativity and innovation. One notable project was “El Viaje de Ico: Los Centros Perdidos,” led by participant Julio Herrera de León. This animation production company focuses on creating historical and cultural series to promote tourism, beginning with an eight-episode series highlighting the rich heritage of Lanzarote’s Centres for Art, Culture, and Tourism using a mix of two and three-dimensional technology alongside photographic archives.
Another project, presented by Alfredo Simon, is “Maemuki,” a video podcast that has been airing since September 2025 and is now in its second season. It shares real-life stories that inspire and educate, focusing on the human aspect of the narratives. Notably, the interviews are recorded on the move around Lanzarote, creating engaging conversations and a distinctive aesthetic compared to traditional studio settings.
