A woman in her sixties died on the popular Las Teresitas beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on 19 August after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Emergency services received multiple calls around 18:50, reporting that the woman had been pulled from the water and was unresponsive. The Centre for Emergency Coordination and Security (CECOES) in the Canary Islands quickly classified the incident and mobilised the necessary resources.
Bystanders attempted to perform first aid before the Red Cross lifeguards arrived on the scene, taking over the CPR efforts. Meanwhile, the coordinator of the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) dispatched a medicalised ambulance.
When the ambulance crew arrived, they implemented advanced resuscitation techniques. Unfortunately, despite extensive efforts, the woman could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Local and national police officers set up a security perimeter to assist medical teams and manage the necessary legal procedures for the body’s removal.
