Heatwave Hits Canary Islands as Temperatures Soar
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 2 August (Europa Press) — The Canary Islands are currently under a heat alert, with temperatures hitting 36.5°C in several areas early on Sunday.
Data from the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET) shows that Pájara in Fuerteventura recorded 36.5°C at 09:50. Meanwhile, at Puerto de Gran Tarajal in Tuineje, Fuerteventura, temperatures reached 34.5°C by 10:00.
Gran Canaria is also experiencing extreme heat, with San Bartolomé de Tirajana reporting 36.5°C and Agüimes at 34.4°C around 10:00. The island’s airport logged 34.3°C at 09:30.
On the cooler side, the lowest temperatures were recorded below 20°C, with Izaña in Tenerife dropping to 19°C at 06:10, and La Orotava at 20°C by 07:20. Roque de Los Muchachos in La Palma recorded a minimum of 20.1°C at 08:00, while Teror in Gran Canaria noted a minimum of 20.6°C at midnight. Tinajo in Lanzarote registered 20.7°C at 07:30.
