Güímar will celebrate the annual Bajada de Nuestra Señora de El Socorro on Monday, 7 September. The day kicks off early with a series of events, including a mass for pilgrims, the transfer of the statue from the parish of San Pedro Apóstol to El Socorro, and the traditional Ceremony of the Guanches.
The pilgrimage mass begins at 6:00 am at San Pedro Apóstol, led by Eloy Alberto Santiago Santiago, Bishop of the Diocese of San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Following the mass, participants will process to the Capilla de El Calvario before descending the statue to the hamlet of El Socorro.
The highlight of the day, the Ceremony of the Guanches, will take place at 7:00 pm. This will feature the transfer of the statue to the Cruz de Tea before the procession returns to the hermitage.
