New Edition of ‘Women and Sport’ Programme Launched in Tenerife
The Cabildo de Tenerife has opened registrations for its latest edition of the ‘Women and Sport’ programme, starting on 31 August. The initiative aims to encourage physical activity, health, and improved quality of life for women, particularly those aged 14 and above.
Beginning in September and running until November, the programme will offer five disciplines: Personal Safety for Physical Activity, Functional Training, Pelvic Floor and Hypopressive Work, Running Initiation, and Hiking and Mountain Running. Activities will take place across various municipalities on the island, focusing on encouraging young women and mothers to participate in sports while considering their family, academic, and professional duties.
The sessions will feature an experienced team of instructors who will guide participants through the activities and provide information on suitable routines. They will also help dispel myths surrounding women’s sports. Childcare services will be available during the sessions, allowing participants to engage in activities while their children are cared for.
Yolanda Moliné, the Cabildo’s Minister for Sports, highlighted the programme’s strong national reputation and its success, citing that nearly 500 women participated in the previous edition, with 70% incorporating regular physical activity into their daily lives. She emphasised the importance of ongoing efforts to enhance women’s health in Tenerife through sport.
The first event is scheduled for 12 September at IES Cruz Santa in Los Realejos, focusing on Personal Safety for Physical Activity from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This practical session will equip women with skills to manage risk situations in both outdoor and sports facility environments.
The programme is supported by participating local councils and the University of La Laguna’s Sports Service, which provide facilities for the activities. La Fast and Isola are also contributing by supplying fruits and nuts for participants.
