The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has completed renovation works on the San Sebastián Avenue and Lope de Vega Street as part of the Urban Boost programme, which aims to improve the condition of the local road network.
The project involved replacing badly damaged pavement by milling the affected areas and laying down new surfacing. This is expected to enhance traffic flow and increase the longevity of both roads.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez commented that the completion of these works supports the city’s goal of providing safer, more comfortable streets for everyday users. He added that the Urban Boost programme allows for continuous intervention in parts of the road network that require attention, based on technical assessments and local needs.
Carlos Tarife, the first deputy mayor and public services councillor, noted that the completion of these projects marks further progress in enhancing and preserving Santa Cruz’s roads. He mentioned that the works were carefully planned to accommodate the daily activities of residents while resulting in newly surfaced roads for improved circulation.
The first phase of the San Sebastián Avenue project involved an investment of €249,595.97. It included milling 54,676.50 square metres of damaged pavement and laying over 900 tonnes of new asphalt. The project also reinforced structurally weakened areas, renewed road markings, and implemented environmental and safety measures.
Meanwhile, the Lope de Vega Street works, which took place from 3 to 11 August with a budget of €83,179.59, were organised in phases to minimise disruption while ensuring access to local homes and businesses.
Both projects are part of Santa Cruz’s broader municipal planning to enhance the road network through the Urban Boost programme, which prioritises interventions based on the condition of various streets.
### Los Príncipes Shopping Centre Car Park Renovation
The city has also completed the refurbishment of the car park next to the Los Príncipes Shopping Centre as part of its efforts to enhance safety, functionality, accessibility, and maintenance of the area.
Carried out from 12 to 14 August at a cost of €82,764, the works addressed approximately 2,772 square metres affected by cracks, material loss, and surface irregularities.
Improvements included preparing and smoothing the surface, laying down new asphalt layers, and renewing road signs to better delineate parking zones and traffic flow arrows, ultimately improving vehicle movement in the area.
