The Canary Islands Government has awarded the contract for widening the TF-5 motorway between Guamasa and Tenerife North Airport, increasing the number of lanes from two to three in the direction of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The contract has been given to a joint venture consisting of Ferrovial Construcción, S.A. and Asyota Asfaltos y Obras, S.L., with a total cost of €58,182,981.26, including tax. This figure represents a reduction of over €8.2 million compared to the original budget of €66,401,344.71, while maintaining technical and safety standards for the project.
The upgrade aims to improve traffic flow and capacity for the thousands of daily users on this route. Additionally, it includes remodelling the Guamasa and San Lázaro junctions and constructing a new direct access route to Tenerife North Airport. This will allow vehicles coming from the north to reach the airport directly, eliminating the need to divert to San Lázaro as they currently do.
According to the Canary Islands Government, this change will ease congestion on the busiest section of the TF-5 and significantly enhance overall traffic flow.
