Fuerteventura Marks LGBTQ+ Pride with Flag Raising and Protest Against Hate
Fuerteventura commemorated LGBTQ+ Pride 2026 today with a flag-raising ceremony and a manifesto reading by the local association, ALTIHAY.
The event followed a march from Los Pozos beach to the Cabildo headquarters in Puerto del Rosario, aimed at combating hate and LGBTQ+ discrimination. Participants filled the streets, showcasing visibility, unity, and pride.
At the Cabildo’s main entrance, ALTIHAY President Carla Soto read the manifesto, joined by other members. They called for diverse pride that defends everyone’s rights and democracy. “In the face of hate and division, we respond with dignity, visibility, and solidarity. This is how we secure rights, and we will defend them for true democracy,” Soto emphasised.
The event was attended by Fuerteventura’s Cabildo President Lola García, Puerto del Rosario Mayor David de Vera, local council members, Senator Paloma Hernández, and Canary Islands Parliament representatives.
