In the first quarter of 2026, Las Palmas saw a significant increase in the construction of free-market housing, rising 17.5% to 676 new homes compared to the same period last year. This growth outpaced the national average, which stood at 12.7% during the same timeframe.

Across the Canary Islands, a total of 1,214 free-market homes were initiated, a 15.4% increase from the first three months of 2025, according to the latest data from the Canary Islands Statistics Institute (ISTAC).
In contrast, Santa Cruz de Tenerife experienced a more modest increase of 12.4%, with 538 new free-market homes under construction. Notably, no protected housing projects have been started in the Canary Islands during this first quarter.
