Police in Arrecife have identified two people who dumped a washing machine and other waste beside a rubbish bin on Tajaraste Street. The local council’s Cleanliness Councillor, Jacobo Lemes, praised the role of a local resident who reported the incident after filming the pair abandoning their items.
Following the recording, the resident provided the footage to the Environmental and Solid Waste Unit, along with an approximate time frame of when the dumping occurred. The police launched an investigation using municipal CCTV footage from nearby areas, despite no cameras being present at the exact site.
Their efforts led to the identification of the vehicle involved and eventually the two individuals, both Arrecife residents, who will be proposed for fines for violating the municipal cleanliness and sustainability ordinance.
Lemes expressed gratitude towards the resident for taking action rather than ignoring the situation, emphasizing that such community involvement is crucial for maintaining the city’s cleanliness. He reiterated the need for ongoing public support to combat littering, urging residents to report similar incidents.
The Cleanliness Department reminded citizens that waste and bulky items should not be left in public spaces but disposed of through the proper channels established by the council.
