Pinolere Crafts Fair Celebrates 41st Edition
This weekend, the Villa de La Orotava, specifically the Pinolere district, is hosting the regional crafts fair, highlighting the heritage of the Canary Islands. The fair, which focuses on woodcraft, officially opened on Friday, 5 September, attended by key figures including the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, the President of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, and the Mayor of La Orotava, Francisco Linares.
During the opening event, the 2026 Cho Feriante de Honor awards were presented to Manuel Hernández Domínguez (individual category), Liceo de Taoro (institutional category), and Transportes Paluper (business category). The XXIII Villa de La Orotava Craft and Heritage Award went to the Asociación San José and its band of carpenters and family members, the only group of its kind in Spain.
The fair features nearly 200 artisans from across the Canary Islands and offers a range of local food products. Attendees can enjoy a varied programme, including themed exhibitions, workshops, tastings, musical performances, and activities celebrating Canarian traditions.
Fernando Clavijo remarked that the Pinolere Fair remains a significant cultural reference point, allowing people to connect with the knowledge and customs that shape island life. This year’s theme underscores the importance of wood, an integral aspect of the islands’ history and identity. Clavijo emphasised the need to preserve this identity while adapting it for younger generations.
Rosa Dávila highlighted that after 41 years, the Pinolere Crafts Fair has become part of Tenerife’s cultural identity. She praised the theme, “Touch Wood: Woods that Hold Stories of Past, Present, and Future,” and noted the importance of passing down knowledge of traditional crafts to the next generation.
Mayor Francisco Linares stressed that the fair is a major event in the Archipelago and a gateway to the world, crediting the dedication of the Asociación Cultural Pinolere over the decades for maintaining traditional Canarian crafts. He urged public authorities to support initiatives aimed at preserving traditional skills and regional identity.
While there is parking available, visitors are advised to use the free shuttle buses, which run hourly from Avenida Sor Soledad Cobián, no. 20 in La Orotava, to reach the fair. The event continues until Sunday, 6 September, and is open daily from 10:00 to 20:00.
