Lanzarote’s CB Puerto del Carmen clinched the Women’s Copa de Canarias División de Honor Oro title on Saturday, drawing 26-26 with Cicar Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife at the Municipal de Tías. This result secured the trophy thanks to Puerto del Carmen’s earlier 25-24 victory in the first leg.
The match kicked off with Carla De Marco scoring within the first 30 seconds, but San José quickly levelled the score. Both teams appeared ready for their upcoming league season, with Puerto gaining an early lead thanks to a goal from Cristina Mazaira (2-4, 5th minute).
San José rallied from their supporters’ energy, but Puerto maintained its composure. A timeout by the home team did little to disrupt Puerto’s momentum, leading 5-8 by the 12th minute. Although San José managed to score after the break, Puerto remained focused, heading into halftime with a 10-14 advantage.
After the interval, San José coach Britos adjusted his tactics, but Puerto continued to push ahead. A series of failed attempts from the visitors allowed San José to level the match at 16-16 by the 8:27 mark.
Despite a six-goal run from San José, Bia Masseu broke the streak with a brave goal. The back-and-forth continued, leading to multiple timeouts as the teams remained level. Najara Gabaldón scored a crucial goal to edge San José ahead at 21-22 in the 23rd minute.
As the match intensified, Carla De Marco put Puerto back in front, prompting another timeout from Britos. With just over two minutes remaining, San José equalised again, but with time running out, Carla Rivas scored for Puerto in the final minute. San José’s attempt to clinch a last-minute goal fell short, handing the cup to Puerto del Carmen.
CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen will play their season opener for 2026-2027 in Madrid against Ikasa Boadilla on Saturday, 26 September at 17:45 (local time). Their first home game will be on 3 October against Caja Rural Aula Valladolid. The local derby with San José is scheduled for early 2027 at the Municipal de Tías, with the return match set for May.
Final scores for Cicar Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife included standout performances from Agustina López with 7 goals, while Beatriz Masseu led for Puerto with 7 goals as well.
