The Teguise Socialists (PSOE) are urging the Lanzarote Cabildo and Teguise Town Hall to open the new bus stop in Costa Teguise, which they describe as being “held hostage” months after construction was completed.
This call to action follows a recent door-to-door campaign in the town, home to over 9,000 residents, where PSOE representatives gathered feedback on local issues and observed that the facility is still not in operation.
Residents shared their concerns about the new bus stop, designed to enhance public transport, but which remains closed to users. PSOE argues that given its location in one of Lanzarote’s key tourist and residential areas, the bus stop should be opened without delay. They are pressing both administrative bodies to expedite any outstanding formalities to facilitate its launch.
This project, initiated during the previous administration under Loli Corujo, secured over two million euros in European funds for its completion. Marcos Bergaz, the party’s spokesman in Teguise, highlighted the need for prompt action, stating, “We fought for over two million euros for a project of this significance to remain closed for months. There has been ample time to finalise the necessary paperwork and serve the public.”
Bergaz emphasised that Costa Teguise requires substantial investment in public transport and pointed out that the bus stop is part of a wider urban renewal effort aimed at benefiting residents, particularly the youth.
He expressed concern over the continuing delays, noting, “This public investment must fulfil its intended purpose: to improve mobility and provide better services to the community.”
The municipal group has already sought updates on the bus stop’s status in recent council meetings and plans to raise the issue again in the upcoming session.
“We regret that the Cabildo and Town Hall are keeping this infrastructure in limbo and demand it be fully unlocked for public use,” Bergaz concluded.
