Young Footballers Celebrate Success at Yaiza Summer Camp
Ninety-four young players from Lanzarote concluded a two-week football camp at the municipal pitch in Yaiza last Saturday. This event, led by coaches from UD Las Palmas, marked ten years of collaboration between the local council and the club, backed by Costa Calero hotel and Volkswagen Canarias, with support from Unión Sur Yaiza, who provided training equipment.
The closing ceremony was filled with joy, attended by families and featuring the club’s mascot, Pío Pío. Local officials expressed a desire to strengthen their partnership, announcing plans for the tenth edition of the campus in 2027. Attendees included Mayor Óscar Noda, Sports Councillor Ángel Lago, and Yeray Sánchez, director of the UDLP Football School, alongside other notable guests.
Participants showcased their skills learned throughout the camp before receiving participation certificates from the officials. Both the council and the club praised the programme’s success, noting that Yaiza is the only municipality outside Gran Canaria to host such a lengthy event, with plans to potentially extend the camp to three weeks in 2027.
Divided into five age groups, the young players focused on technique, tactics, psychomotor skills, and specific goalkeeper training, following the methodology of UD Las Palmas.
