Arrecife Celebrates Youth with Successful Summer Geek Event
Arrecife’s Youth Centre buzzed with activity yesterday as it hosted the inaugural Arrecife Summer Geek event, celebrating International Youth Day. Organised by the local Youth Council, led by Rosmen Quevedo, the event attracted a massive turnout.
From early morning, young people flocked to the venue, taking part in a diverse range of activities including video games, virtual reality, tabletop gaming, cosplay, K-pop, and soft combat. The event also featured workshops and various cultural activities linked to geek culture.
The impressive turnout confirmed the event’s popularity, following the success of the Arrecife Winter Geek held in December 2025.
Councilman Quevedo, joined by Deputy Mayor Echedey Eugenio and Councillor Aroa Revelo, praised the enthusiastic response from young attendees, stating, “This shows that young people want these types of events. Arrecife can provide spaces for them to enjoy, share hobbies, and be at the forefront.” He expressed satisfaction with the level of engagement, noting, “We filled the Youth Centre with activity, creativity, and young people enjoying themselves together.”
During the ten-hour event, participants explored a large gaming and virtual reality area, with initiatives focusing on video games and diversity offered by Lánzate. Highlights included the Artist Alley and tabletop gaming workshops from Mesas del Tágora.
Additionally, attendees enjoyed demonstrations and workshops from Égida Softcombat Lanzarote, creative activities such as Hama bead art, and K-pop keyring-making. Other activities included face painting, crafting Warhammer miniatures, K-pop dancing, and magic wand making.
A notable moment was the appearance of voice actor Luis Posada, who delivered an engaging talk and interacted with attendees, offering insights into his career.
Concluding the event, Quevedo extended gratitude to the Lanzarote Cabildo and Aroa Revelo, as well as the local groups and associations that contributed to the event’s success. He emphasised the vital role of the youth community and its constant flow of ideas, talent, and enthusiasm.
