The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council has awarded a contract worth €104,860 over four years for the quantitative analysis of drug samples from drivers. This service aims to verify the results of narcotics tests conducted by the local police.
According to a council statement, the contract includes the provision of saliva sampling devices, laboratory analysis, sample identification, and ensuring proper handling and storage, as well as the delivery of analytical results.
Testing will employ gas or liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry for both qualitative identification and quantitative measurement of substances. The analysis will cover drugs such as cocaine, morphine, codeine, methadone, amphetamines, methamphetamines, and MDA or MDEA.
Additionally, the local police can request analyses specifically for benzodiazepines, including alprazolam, lorazepam, diazepam, flunitrazepam, and ketamine.
The successful bidder must have an accredited laboratory and qualified personnel to carry out the tests and confirm or rule out any positive findings from preliminary screenings.
A crucial requirement is the quick turnaround for results. Confirmatory analysis must be completed within 48 to 72 hours, with results delivered no later than 72 hours after sample collection from police facilities.
