The Tenerife Cabildo and APREME officially opened the new facilities of the Our Lady of Amparo Occupational Centre in Icod de los Vinos on 18 September. This centre aims to enhance the quality of life for individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families in the Icod-Daute-Isla Baja area.
The project, funded by the Cabildo through the Institute of Social and Sociosanitary Care, involved a total investment of €142,000 for the comprehensive renovation and operational setup of the centre.
The new facility will provide comprehensive rehabilitative care, occupational training programmes, support for personal and social adjustment, and ongoing guidance for families. The focus is on promoting users’ independence and community engagement.
During the inauguration, Lope Afonso expressed his pleasure in seeing the project realised, highlighting that collaboration between government and the third sector is vital for creating genuine inclusion opportunities.
Águeda Fumero, the Social Action Counsellor, noted that the opening of these facilities marks a significant step towards developing a more accessible and supportive resource network.
Since 2024, APREME has been part of the Insular Network of Social Policies, launching projects aimed at preventive actions and community engagement in the northern region. Over the past year, these initiatives have reached more than 200 individuals, including users, family members, and students, through various awareness activities.
