A Santa Cruz de Tenerife court has sentenced a man to six years and nine months in prison for attempting to smuggle two kilos of cocaine through La Palma Airport. He was also ordered to pay a fine of €480,000.
The man arrived on a flight from Gran Canaria, landing at around 11:00 on 2 October 2025. Upon arrival, customs officers identified him during passenger checks. A search of his luggage revealed eleven packages, ten containing one kilo of cocaine with a purity of 85%, and the remaining package containing another kilo at 81% purity.
Subsequent evaluations estimated the street value of the cocaine at approximately €120,500, which informed the fine imposed. The prosecution had sought an eight-year prison sentence and the same financial penalty, emphasising the serious public health threat posed by the drug.
The accused was placed in provisional custody on the day of the incident.
