Eight New Agents Join Tenerife’s Agricultural Extension Network
The Vice President of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso, and the Councillor for Primary Sector, Valentín González, welcomed eight new agents to the island’s Agricultural Extension Agencies in a ceremony held on Thursday, 27 October, at the Insular Palace.
Afonso described the agents as “a direct link between technical knowledge and the daily work of farmers and livestock producers,” highlighting their role in modernising the sector and supporting generational change.
González added that these new recruits will bring skilled young talent to local agencies, assisting farmers, fishermen, and ranchers in facing both current and future challenges.
The eight professionals, all qualified in Agricultural Engineering and Rural Environment, have been placed within ten Agricultural Extension Agencies across Tenerife, including La Orotava, Güímar, and Granadilla. Their integration aims to provide a decentralised service tailored to the specific needs of local producers.
Additionally, the new agents underwent a comprehensive training programme covering essential topics such as practical teaching methods, subtropical and temperate fruit cultivation, winemaking, pest and disease management, soil and water management, and biodiversity conservation.
