A 68-year-old man had to be resuscitated on Wednesday, 26 August, after experiencing a cardiac arrest at La Graciosa harbour, as reported by Lanzarote’s Security and Emergency Consortium.
Emergency services were alerted at around 09:20 when they received a report of a man in cardiac arrest following a choking incident. Local police officers were on the scene performing CPR when emergency personnel arrived.
Responders used a semi-automatic defibrillator to deliver a shock. Medical teams continued treatment until the man was stabilised.
Once stable, the man was taken by ambulance to a health centre, from where he was later airlifted to Lanzarote General Hospital via a medical helicopter.
The Security and Emergency Consortium also provided support during the helicopter’s takeoff and landing to ensure the patient’s safe transfer.
The swift actions of the police officer, along with the emergency and medical teams, successfully managed a critical situation at La Graciosa harbour, keeping the man alive until he reached hospital care.
