Fuerteventura Launches Neuromajo Initiative for Seniors
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has renewed its partnership with Padilla Supermercados Spar for the Neuromajo project, aimed at promoting healthy aging among locals. This marks the second consecutive year of collaboration, as confirmed by the signing of a new agreement.
The supermarket chain will again distribute discount cards for essential health products to participants in the programme ‘Fuerteventura, por una vejez saludable’. In the previous edition, over 5,000 purchases were made, saving seniors around €20,000.
The agreement was signed by notable figures including Lola García, president of the Cabildo, and Besay Rodríguez, president of the Neurolímpica Association.
Additionally, Barceló Hotel Group has joined this year’s initiative. The director of Occidental Jandía Playa, Tomás de Vera, announced that discount codes would be provided to participants for use in their hotels. They will also assist with accommodation for attendees of the NeuroCanarias 2026 event in Morro Jable this November.
García expressed pride in continuing the Neuromajo project, thanking all participating towns – a unique feature for Fuerteventura. She emphasised the importance of promoting active lifestyles for the elderly.
Victor Alonso, the social action councillor, stated that preparations are underway for the new edition, set to kick off on 16 October in Caleta de Fuste.
He highlighted the significance of corporate social responsibility in bringing together 300 seniors from each municipality, announcing Dany Sport’s involvement to offer discounts on sports equipment for participants.
Rodríguez from the Neurolímpica Association praised the collaboration with Padilla Supermercados Spar and Barceló Group, underscoring Fuerteventura’s pioneering role in such initiatives.
