Fuerteventura Music Festival Draws 11,000 to La Concha Beach
The Playa de La Concha was alive with music and culture as around 11,000 people gathered for the 20th anniversary of the Fuerteventura en Música (FEM) festival this weekend. The event concluded with a vibrant atmosphere, staying true to its roots established two decades ago.
The festivities kicked off with local group Arife, showcasing the musical heritage of the Canary Islands and its connection to Africa through a visually stunning performance featuring unique instruments and guest artists. This was followed by Queralt Lahoz, whose strong stage presence led into the lively rhythms of Kumbia Boruka, who had the crowd dancing with their blend of Latin beats and contemporary sounds.
The highlight of the night was Antonio Carmona, a much-anticipated act who delighted the audience with hits from his illustrious career. The festival closed with an energetic performance by Pongo, who transformed La Concha into a lively party with his Afro-fusion sounds, while Woodhands kept the energy flowing during the set changes.
FEM continues to stand out as one of the most unique festivals in the Canary Islands, being free, open, and inclusive. For 20 years, it has offered top-tier programming while championing multiculturalism, local talent, sustainability, and respect for the natural environment.
Daytime Festivities in El Cotillo
The music started even before the main event at La Concha, as the FEM de Día brought life to El Cotillo with a programme of workshops and performances from artists like Papaya Subtropical, Naby Zana Band, and Hey Chabón throughout the day. A notable moment came with the performance of Chocolate Sexy, drawing a crowd that sang along to their songs, highlighting the festival’s festive spirit that has become part of its identity.
