New Exhibitions at El Almacén Showcase Contemporary Art
El Almacén launched its latest art exhibitions on 26 June 2026, featuring “Identidad” by Will Encarnación, “Antitemática” by Juan Arranz, and Atchen Pounapal’s video installation “Arqueología del ciclo.” The exhibitions will run until 26 September, alongside an installation by Laura López Balza.
The opening event included Ascensión Toledo, the Councillor for Education of Lanzarote, the artists, and curator Nira Cabrera.
Visitors can expect a range of artistic expressions that encourage reflection and dialogue, with free entry to the exhibitions hosted in various spaces within El Almacén.
A Space for Artistic Reflection
Ascensión Toledo noted that El Almacén is once again a hub for discovering local talent, presenting diverse artistic proposals that invite visitors to engage with contemporary art through different lenses.
Nira Cabrera emphasised the unique perspectives represented in the exhibitions, highlighting a shared commitment to exploration and experimentation in the island’s artistic landscape.
Three Distinct Contemporary Visual Discourses
The exhibitions are divided into three distinct projects:
“Identidad” – Found in the Sala Cubo, this project sees Will Encarnación exploring human figures as expressions of identity. His artwork addresses themes like race, migration, and belonging using various painting techniques to reveal complex realities through the human body.
“Antitemática” – Juan Arranz’s exhibition in the Sala Aljibe features a collection of contemporary figurative paintings. He champions creative freedom and curiosity, encouraging viewers to embrace the unexpected without a predefined approach.
“Arqueología del ciclo” – Located in the Salita, Atchen Pounapal’s video installation blends image, sound, and object. It contemplates the elements of earth, water, air, and fire, and includes display cases designed as cabinets of curiosities to challenge conventional representations.
Guided Tours and Activities
The exhibitions are complemented by a series of free activities:

Guided Tours: Led by David Machado on 27 June; 14 and 25 July; 4 and 22 August; and 8 and 12 September.

Performance: Atchen Pounapal will perform in the El Almacén courtyard on 15 July at 19:00.

Discussion: A talk between Will Encarnación and Nira Cabrera about “Identidad” scheduled for 22 September at 19:00 in the Sala Cubo.
