New Mural Unveiled in Puerto del Rosario Promotes Diversity and Respect
Puerto del Rosario has launched a new mural titled “A Proud Capital,” designed by local artist Monono.art. Located on Presidente Juan Negrín Street, the mural replaces the earlier “Pride 365 Days a Year,” which was vandalised earlier this year.
The unveiling took place as part of the Puerto Diverso 2026 initiative, bringing together local officials, members of the ALTIHAY group, and residents in a symbolically charged event. The new artwork aims to counter a recent act of intolerance and serves as a permanent reminder of respect, equality, and visibility for the LGBTQ+ community.
During the event, attendees reflected on art’s potential as a transformative tool in society. Mayor David de Vera emphasised that “this mural represents much more than artistic intervention. It is the response of a community that rejects intolerance and values equality.” He affirmed Puerto del Rosario’s commitment to being an open and safe city for all.
Tacoremi Gutiérrez, the councillor for Equality, Diversity, and LGBTQ+ issues, underscored that restoring the mural signifies that hateful messages have no place in the municipality. The mural aims to bring visibility to individuals who have long been sidelined, celebrating diversity as a core part of the community’s identity.
The mural’s slogan, “A Proud Capital. Hate has no place here because we cultivate pride,” encapsulates its mission to make public spaces welcoming, memorable, and affirming, reinforcing the need for respect against discrimination.
Through this initiative, the local government seeks to foster a more inclusive, diverse community, ensuring that human rights remain central to public action.
