Fifty Migrants Rescued Off Lanzarote
A group of around fifty male migrants was rescued off the coast of Lanzarote early Saturday morning after being spotted in a rubber dinghy. The migrants were navigating towards the Canary Islands when they were detected by the Army’s Air Rescue Service on Friday afternoon, who alerted the Maritime Rescue Centre in Las Palmas.
The rescue boat, Salvamar Acrux, was deployed after the sighting. They coordinated with passing vessels in the area, one of which, named Anemos, confirmed that the dinghy appeared to be in good condition and offered to escort it.
By approximately 10 p.m., the Salvamar Acrux had reached the dinghy, and the migrants were brought on board. They were then transported to Lanzarote, arriving at 1:22 a.m. on Saturday.
