Tías Municipality will soon open the new Tajinaste Municipal Park, covering over 10,800 square metres next to the IES Tías school. The park’s inauguration is currently pending the finalisation of water and electricity connections. Mayor José Juan Cruz has confirmed that the park is ready for local residents to start using it.
During a recent visit to the site with First Deputy Mayor Nicolás Saavedra and councillors from various departments, including Urban Planning and Sports, Cruz oversaw the final touches on the park, which will be called Tajinaste Municipal Park.
The project, initially named Parque Los Lirios, had a total budget of €2,691,157.09, with Tías Municipality contributing €1,840,627.29 from its own funds and an additional €850,529.80 from the Cabildo of Lanzarote’s 2024 Municipal Cooperation Plan. The construction was awarded to Hormiconsa Canarias.
Cruz expressed his satisfaction with the completion of a space that enhances community interaction, safe play for children, and overall wellbeing. He noted that such facilities encourage outdoor activities like walking and basketball, while also promoting a connection to nature.
The park features landscaped areas with native and introduced plants, a children’s playground, shaded areas with pergolas, calisthenics equipment, a skatepark, sports courts, seating areas, changing facilities, a dog park, a café, and public toilets. The opening of the café will follow a separate bidding process.
The design includes pathways that support various recreational and sports activities, ensuring accessibility for individuals with reduced mobility, aiming to serve as many citizens as possible.
