Lanzarote’s Insular Sports Service held a strategic meeting with the Lanzarote Tourist Federation (FTL) and the Lanzarote Hotels and Apartments Association (ASOLAN) to discuss collaborative efforts aimed at enhancing the socio-economic impact of major sporting events on the island. Representatives from Tourism Lanzarote and Teguise Town Hall were also present.
The meeting included key figures, such as Juan Monzón, Lanzarote’s Councillor for Physical Activity and Sports; Susana Pérez, president of both FTL and ASOLAN; and Teguise’s Mayor, Olivia Duque, alongside other sports and tourism representatives.
Monzón emphasised the economic significance of sports for Lanzarote, stating, “Collaborating with FTL, ASOLAN, Tourism Lanzarote, and a leading municipality like Teguise allows us to effectively plan the new format of IRONMAN and lay the groundwork for the inaugural Insular Sports Fair. We aim to ensure that sporting events provide tangible returns, enhance tourism offerings, and establish our island as an internationally recognised destination.”
Pérez noted that these sporting events, along with the upcoming Sports Fair, present “an opportunity to further diversify Lanzarote’s tourism offerings and showcase the island’s potential in sports, health, and wellness.” She added, “We have exceptional conditions to attract visitors interested in these activities, with a tourism sector already invested in meeting this demand,” highlighting the fair’s role in fostering connections among businesses, event organisers, and sports professionals.
The meeting also focused on the introduction of a new format for the IRONMAN Lanzarote triathlon, one of the world’s most renowned and challenging races, which will be implemented in 2026 to align with international standards.
Furthermore, the Insular Physical Activity and Sports Department shared updates on the first Insular Sports Fair, an innovative event designed to bring together various stakeholders, including local authorities, tourism, leisure businesses, and sports clubs.
This meeting aligns with Lanzarote’s Sports Service’s strategy to strengthen cooperation between tourism and sports, ensuring coordinated planning regarding accommodation, logistics, and the island’s external promotion.
