Villa de Mazo will host celebrations in honour of Our Lady of Coromoto from 11 to 13 September, featuring sports, children’s activities, live music, and religious events, along with the inaugural Virgen de Coromoto Wine Fair.
Mayor Idafe Hernández has encouraged residents to join the festivities, praising the Virgen de Coromoto Association for its efforts in preserving local traditions. “These celebrations are made possible by those who dedicate their time to maintaining our customs,” he said.
Hernández also highlighted the return of the traditional ring race and the addition of the wine fair. “This year, we’re reviving an activity closely tied to the celebrations and introducing the Wine Fair. I want to thank the Cabildo of La Palma and Sodepal for their support,” he noted.
Cultural and Festivities Councillor Mariela Ramos emphasised the variety of events planned. “We have three days ahead with diverse activities for all ages, including events in honour of the Virgin,” she explained.
Traditions and Tourism Councillor Concepción Triana pointed out the musical programme for both the Wine Fair and the celebrations, which will feature various performance groups throughout Saturday. “We aim for traditional music to play a prominent role in our festivities, as it allows us to appreciate and celebrate an essential part of our popular culture,” she said.
The programme begins on Friday, 11 September, at 19:00 with a zumba fitness masterclass at the Andares Cultural Centre.
On Saturday, 12 September, activities kick off at 10:00 with the Canarian Bowling Championship in the parking area next to the Cultural Centre, featuring teams such as Casa Augusto 1 and Casa Augusto 2. The ring race will take place at 10:30 on María del Carmen Martínez Jerez street, followed by bouncy castles from 13:00.
The inaugural Virgen de Coromoto Wine Fair will occur throughout Saturday, complemented by live performances. Musical acts include Parranda Seis y Media at 12:30, Leonardo Lires at 14:00, Parranda El Lagar at 16:00, and DJ Aguiloche at 17:30, with Leyenda Joven, from Gran Canaria, taking the stage at 18:30.
Sunday’s events on 13 September will start at 12:00 with a mass in honour of Our Lady of Coromoto at San Blas parish, followed by a procession with the Municipal Band. The celebrations will conclude with a communal lunch at 14:00, featuring entertainment by Pedro Rodríguez and DJ Yardi. Limited spaces are available and can be booked by calling 657 432 026.
