Fuerteventura’s Council has launched a new bus stop in the Nuevo Horizonte Industrial Estate in the municipality of Antigua. This is the first stop in the area and addresses a long-standing demand from workers and local businesses. Council President Lola García said the stop enhances road safety, accessibility, and comfort for users.
García emphasised that the Council’s goal is for public transport to reach every part of the island, prioritising areas with high demand.
Previously, the Nuevo Horizonte Industrial Estate lacked a dedicated bus stop, hindering access to public transport in one of the island’s main commercial zones, according to Transport Councillor Luiso González.
The new stop began operating on Monday, 13th July, following the installation of a bus shelter and platform in an area where no suitable pickup point existed. Bus routes 16 and 13, along with the conventional route 3, will now serve this stop.
The location was chosen with road safety and user convenience in mind. Both García and González thanked the new municipal government of Antigua for facilitating the necessary authorisations to finally bring the stop into service.
Public transport improvement is a key focus for Fuerteventura’s Council, which has upgraded 50% of the intercity bus fleet with Next Generation EU funds. The Council has also increased service frequency and introduced new routes, such as the express route 3, while maintaining free bus travel and initiating the first dedicated regular passenger transport service.
