Tenerife Launches Employment Fair to Connect Businesses with Job Seekers
The Tenerife Island Government, through the Insular Foundation for Training, Employment, and Business Development (FIFEDE), has kicked off the 2026 Employment Fair to bridge local companies with young job seekers and students. The event, held today at the Fairgrounds, saw participation from over 80 companies and attracted more than 3,000 attendees.
Rosa Dávila, president of the Tenerife Island Government, emphasised that this edition comes at a particularly advantageous time for employment in the region. Unemployment in Tenerife has fallen to 8.7% in the first quarter of 2026, the lowest in 19 years, and is now below the national average of 10.8%. In just three years, the unemployment rate has dropped dramatically from 19.5% in early 2023, amounting to 48,000 fewer unemployed individuals.
Dávila also highlighted positive trends among younger workers, with youth unemployment at 13%, a historic low and 11 points below the national average of 24%. This figure had exceeded 36% in 2023. She urged continued efforts to ensure all young people can pursue their professional aspirations in Tenerife.
The event included various aspects aimed at fostering job readiness, such as curriculum reviews and professional photography, alongside talks and workshops focused on employability. Efraín Medina, the Employment, Education and Youth councillor, explained that the fair offers direct contact with companies, providing essential tools for job seekers. Previous fairs saw 40% of participants secure employment within three months.
Manuel Fernández, the Industry and Commerce councillor, thanked FIFEDE for their long-standing collaboration in hosting the event, marking the 30th anniversary of FIFEDE’s service to the people of Tenerife. Santa Cruz Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez noted that events like these significantly increase job opportunities. He reported a 5.5% reduction in unemployment in the capital over the past year, with an average of over 8,000 contracts signed monthly.
The Employment Fair not only brings together various sectors but also offers insights into current job market needs and the skills employers seek. By promoting cooperation with local businesses and providing professional guidance, the Tenerife Island Government aims to create new job opportunities and facilitate the entry of local talent into the workforce.
