A sewage pipe burst early on Thursday morning in Arrecife, Lanzarote, causing significant disruptions. The incident occurred at 00:55 in Tajaraste Street, with the force of the leak propelling water to a considerable height and onto the rooftops of two nearby buildings.
Firefighters responded to the scene and discovered that the pipe had lost pressure. They accessed the roof of the building at number 12 Campoamor Street, where they found water flooding down the stairs due to blocked drainage pipes filled with solid waste.
To address the issue, the firefighters removed the drains’ covers and began to pump out the water. They assessed nearby homes, noting minimal water damage except for one property on Folías Street, where water had entered the cistern.
Local police were on site assisting displaced residents with temporary accommodation while workers cordoned off the affected area.
