The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, in collaboration with environmental services company Valoriza, will undertake extensive cleaning operations in the Ofra-Costa Sur district this week.
The initiative starts tomorrow, Tuesday 15 September, focusing on Las Retamas and Juan XXIII, followed by work in César Casariego on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17. These efforts are part of the Extraordinary Neighbourhood Cleaning Plan and aim to give public spaces a thorough clean, especially areas difficult to maintain regularly.
A multidisciplinary team will be deployed for various tasks, including clearing weeds, sweeping, and pressure washing across different locations in the district.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stated, “We are committed to keeping our city cleaner and maintaining special attention to certain neighbourhoods. These cleaning operations allow us to deeply clean areas, enhancing the state of our streets, squares, and public spaces.”
Bermúdez emphasised that cleaning is a priority for the council, which will reinforce resources and increase the frequency of operations to better address residents’ needs.
Carlos Tarife, the councillor for Public Services, added that the goal is to intensively support each neighbourhood’s regular cleaning service. He announced plans to increase the number of weekly operations from three to nine, with a total of 270 extraordinary cleaning days scheduled for 2026 and 2027. This will involve coordination of various teams and resources to focus on areas needing extra attention.
The Extraordinary Neighbourhood Cleaning Plan will deploy 30 workers and 12 vehicles to carry out intensive clearing, sweeping, and additional essential tasks.
