The Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, and Jacobo Medina, the Public Works Councillor of Lanzarote’s Island Council, inspected ongoing improvements at the Costa Teguise and Los Mármoles junction (LZ-3) leading to the Lloret industrial area. This project aims to enhance road signage and marking at one of the main access points to the capital, improving traffic flow.
The Arrecife City Council had requested strengthened road signage to ease traffic ahead of a new roundabout planned for the area, with a technical project already in place. Concurrently, the City Council has implemented diversions on the Vía Medular to facilitate the ongoing construction of a new stormwater network, prompting the Mobility and Transport Department to advise drivers to avoid the Vía Medular and use the LZ-3 bypass to access surrounding neighbourhoods.
Recent work has included upgrading horizontal and vertical signage, repainting directional arrows, and installing new markers, such as H-75 stakes, to improve clarity and safety for drivers. These changes enhance visibility of traffic movements and better organise access at this crucial point in the island’s road network.
Jacobo Medina highlighted the importance of enhancing road signage for safety and clarity in high-traffic areas. “We are working at strategic points to ensure our signage is clear and safe. This junction experiences significant daily traffic, and it was essential to improve both signage and marking.”
Mayor Yonathan de León added, “The entrance and exit to and from Arrecife towards Costa Teguise and Los Mármoles via the bypass is a key access point, and we want this route to be well-marked and safe to ensure smooth traffic flow.” He noted that these improvements are vital for reducing congestion on the Vía Medular due to ongoing work in the area.
This initiative is part of broader efforts by the Public Works Department to enhance the island’s road network, focusing on safety, renewing signage, and improving road functionality, particularly in high-traffic zones.
