Lanzarote’s Cabildo has announced a traffic regulation plan for the traditional pilgrimage to Our Lady of Los Dolores in 2026. The initiative aims to ensure the safety of the thousands of pilgrims heading to Mancha Blanca by restricting vehicular traffic on key routes.
Jacobo Medina, the island’s Public Works Councillor, emphasised the need to prioritise road safety during the festivities. He stated, “We are implementing a comprehensive operation in close collaboration with Francisco J. Aparicio’s Safety and Emergency Consortium to guarantee the safety and peace of mind for the thousands walking to the Ermita de Los Dolores.”
Traffic disruptions will occur on several roads on Saturday, 12 September. Key closures include:
- LZ-20 (Arrecife – Tinajo): Closed from 00:00 to 22:00 in the direction of Arrecife, diverting traffic through Mozaga.
- LZ-30 (Teguise – Uga): Complete closure from 08:00 to 22:00 between the Monument roundabout and Calle Calderetas. A temporary closure from 11:30 to 12:30 is expected on the segment from Calle Calderetas to La Florida, with diversions via Montaña Blanca.
- LZ-46 (Tiagua – Mancha Blanca): Closed from 10:00 on 12 September until 06:00 the next day.
- LZ-56 (Mancha Blanca – La Geria): Closed from 08:00 on 12 September until 06:00 on 13 September, accessible only for public transport.
- LZ-58 (Masdache – La Vegueta): Closed from 08:00 on 12 September until 06:00 the next day near Peñón.
- LZ-67 (La Santa – Yaiza): Closed from 15:00 to 23:00 between Tinajo Hardware Store and Chimanfaya Street.
- LZ-409 (Mozaga – La Vegueta): Closed from 08:00 on 12 September until 06:00 the following day.
These measures aim to facilitate a safe and enjoyable pilgrimage experience for all participants.
