The Buches Marinera Group held an event on Friday to present commemorative diplomas to its members in Argana Baja. This annual ceremony recognises the vital support and contributions of its members towards the group’s activities.
During the gathering, president Juan Antonio Machado Santana expressed gratitude, stating, “This diploma symbolizes our deep appreciation. Associations are not just acronyms; they are the people who support them daily. The annual contributions from our members drive our projects and help us make a positive impact, particularly in reviving Arrecife’s maritime traditions.”
Machado Santana also highlighted the Pósito de Pescadores of Arrecife, which inspired the formation of the association. He noted its original purpose of providing a community space for fishermen and their families, saying, “That Pósito aimed to meet their needs, share concerns, educate, and celebrate, just as we do today over a century later.”
The diplomas reflect the association’s commitment to transparency and strengthening ties with its members. Contributions over the past year have enabled key projects, such as preserving traditional attire and participating in celebrations like the San Ginés festival.
The event celebrated achievements from the 2025-2026 season in music and dance, welcoming new members and acknowledging those who had collaborated with the association. Directors of dance and music, Rubén Valiente Umpiérrez and Abián Rodríguez, were specially recognised for their leadership and the progress made with dancers and musicians.
In closing, attendees enjoyed refreshments and discussed the future of the association, especially preparations for the upcoming Carnival, where the Buches will play a significant role.
