A 50-year-old man was airlifted to hospital on Monday afternoon after suffering serious injuries at Las Conchas beach in La Graciosa.
The Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES 112) received a call at 1:06 PM about a person who had been rescued from the water after being struck by a wave. The call prompted the activation of multiple emergency services, including the Canary Island Urgent Service (SUC), primary healthcare, the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES), and the Consortium for Security, Emergencies, Rescue, and Fire Prevention in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
Upon arrival, medical staff assessed the man, who was found to have sustained serious trauma. He was evacuated by helicopter to the helipad of the Consortium in Arrecife and was then transported by ambulance to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital.
The operations coordinator at the 112 control room liaised with health services to deploy the GES rescue helicopter. Firefighters from the Security Consortium assisted with the emergency response efforts on both La Graciosa and Lanzarote.
