New Leadership for Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista at Lanzarote Convention
Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) held their second Island-Home Convention on Saturday at the Youth Centre in Arrecife, where they elected new local leaders and outlined plans for the upcoming 2027 elections.
The event saw attendance from local party representatives and national leaders, including Natalia Santana, the national president; Ayoze Corujo, national organisation secretary; and general secretary, Luis Campos.
Belén Machín was elected as the new president of NC-BC’s island committee, with Yoné Caraballo named as the new secretary for Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
Caraballo announced his candidacy for NC-BC’s head at the Cabildo de Lanzarote for the elections in May 2027. His political agenda will focus on sustainability, housing access, water management, land planning, and strengthening public services.
He proposed a temporary halt on creating new tourist accommodations if elected, aiming to prioritise residents’ quality of life over increasing tourist capacity.
In terms of housing, Caraballo advocated for market interventions to control rental prices and increase taxes on speculative housing practices.
He also called for the public management of the integral water cycle to be returned to the Cabildo directly.
Addressing public health, Caraballo expressed his party’s support for last week’s demonstration defending the Insular Hospital.
The convention concluded with the approval of the new NC-BC team, marking a fresh chapter for the party in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
