Fuerteventura Showcases Talents in León with Urraca I Opera Premiere
The Fuerteventura Island Tourism Board premiered the opera Urraca I, Reina con Reino in León last night, a new production by the local composer Igor Escudero Morais. The performance took place at the San Isidoro Museum cloister as part of a promotional tour through Spain, which has included Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid, and Gijón.
The opera, celebrating Urraca I – Europe’s first female monarch by right – features nearly 100 professionals from both the Canary Islands and León. The Tourism Board’s sponsorship aligns with its strategy to promote Fuerteventura’s cultural offerings in key markets.
In addition to the performance, the Board invited 20 travel agents from León, providing them with promotional materials about the island. Participating agencies included Multidestinos, Halcón Viajes, and Nautalia Viajes, among others.
Marlene Figueroa, the Board’s Vice President, stated that León fits Fuerteventura’s target market of travellers seeking nature and authenticity. She emphasised that their sponsorship reflects a unique approach to promotion, enhancing Fuerteventura’s distinctive image.
After each show, attendees enjoyed a cocktail featuring local cheese and León wines, furthering the Board’s efforts to diversify its market presence through a combination of direct engagement, professional outreach, and cultural sponsorship.
