The Cabildo of Lanzarote, in collaboration with the Tourism Federation and ASOLAN, has held a meeting to discuss the new format of the IRONMAN Lanzarote and preparations for the inaugural Insular Sports Fair.
The meeting, which involved representatives from Tourism Lanzarote and the Teguise Town Hall, aimed to coordinate joint actions to enhance the island’s major sporting events and their economic and tourism impact.
Attendees included Juan Monzón, Lanzarote’s Councillor for Physical Activity and Sports; Susana Pérez, President of both the Tourism Federation and ASOLAN; Teguise Mayor Olivia Duque; and the town’s Sports Councillor Alejandro Ramírez, along with technical representatives from the tourism sector.
Monzón emphasised that “sport is an undeniable economic driver for Lanzarote,” noting that coordination between government and the tourism sector will facilitate planning for the new IRONMAN format and advance the organisation of the Insular Sports Fair.
Pérez highlighted that these events present “an opportunity to further diversify Lanzarote’s tourism offerings,” strengthening areas related to sport, health, and wellbeing.
The meeting prioritised discussions on the implementation of the new IRONMAN format, set to come into effect in 2026 to meet the evolving requirements of the international circuit.
Additionally, the Cabildo shared updates on the Insular Sports Fair, designed as a meeting point for local administrations, tourism businesses, clubs, professionals, and athletes.
This gathering is part of the Insular Sports Service’s strategy to enhance links between sports and tourism, focusing on accommodation, logistics, and promoting the island externally.
