Local police in La Oliva, Fuerteventura, are investigating several incidents of reckless driving that occurred during celebrations for Morocco’s football victory. Videos shared on social media showed vehicles performing dangerous maneuvers on the streets of Corralejo.
In a statement, the police revealed that community safety patrols launched the probe after noticing various behaviours that might lead to administrative offences or even criminal charges.
As part of the investigation, authorities have questioned several drivers involved, who have been summoned to appear before the courts. Officers have also filed charges for reckless driving and other potential administrative violations uncovered during the inquiry, alongside criminal proceedings sent to the relevant judicial authority.
The investigation remains active as police continue to analyse social media footage, municipal CCTV images, and automatic number plate recognition data to identify additional drivers who might have taken part in these actions.
Officials reminded the public that reckless driving, which endangers lives or physical integrity, can be classified as a crime under Article 380 of the Penal Code, punishable by six months to two years in prison and a driving ban of one to six years.
