Processions Bring Tahíche’s 2026 Festivities to a Close
Tahíche celebrated the conclusion of its Patron Saints’ festivities for 2026, honouring Saint James and Saint Anne, with a vibrant weekend filled with religious observances, comedy from Darío López, and a concert by Los Cantadores.
The annual event showcased rich tradition and community spirit over two days, with high participation from locals marking the end of nearly a month of cultural activities.
While the grand religious events have wrapped up, the programme will officially close next weekend with a popular outing and the twelfth edition of the Tahíche Charity Race.
Celebrating Saint James
On Saturday, 25 July, the village’s chapel hosted a solemn mass for Saint James. Following the service, the images of Saint James and the Virgin of Carmen were paraded through the streets, accompanied by supporters and the Teguiband Municipal Band.
Later that evening, a comedy show by Canarian performer Darío López attracted a full house at the sociocultural centre, filled with humour that captured Canarian identity and everyday anecdotes.
Family Ties and Local Music
The festivities continued on Sunday with the celebration of Saint Anne. The parish priest dedicated heartfelt remarks to grandparents and grandchildren during the service, emphasising the importance of family. The images of the saints again took to the streets, embraced by the community.
The musical finale was provided by local group Los Cantadores, who delivered their show “18 Years Singing to the Canaries,” featuring beloved songs from the Archipelago that engaged the audience in song.
Recognition of Community Efforts
The Santiago el Mayor Neighbourhood Association and the Tahíche Festival Commission expressed their gratitude for the support from the Teguise Town Council, as well as the involvement of local businesses, volunteers, and residents, which contributed to making this year’s festivities a significant event on Lanzarote.
