Council Works to Tackle Mosquito Problem in Tarajalejo
The Tuineje Council is collaborating with Fuerteventura’s Health Department to address a surge in mosquitoes affecting Tarajalejo. Mayor David Herrera confirmed ongoing communication with Health Director Tomás Pérez, who has dispatched a specialised biology team to the area for sampling and to identify the source of the infestation.
Mayor Herrera visited Tarajalejo to oversee the efforts and reported that the likely breeding site has been located. Results from the samples, which are expected in about a month, will confirm the mosquito species and inform the appropriate control measures.
Following the sampling, the pest control service will begin fumigation and other treatments to eliminate the infestation and prevent future outbreaks. This initiative comes in response to numerous complaints from residents about mosquito bites, some resulting in serious reactions that required treatment at the Gran Tarajal Health Centre.
“We activated a protocol with the Health Department to identify the source and implement necessary actions to address an issue affecting the daily lives of Tarajalejo residents,” Mayor Herrera stated.
