The Lanzarote Island Council has announced two funding schemes aimed at supporting the island’s primary sector for the 2026 financial year. This initiative will finance operational costs for agricultural and livestock farms on Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
The total funding of €100,000 is divided equally, with €50,000 allocated for agricultural activities and €50,000 for livestock operations. These grants aim to help professionals in the sector offset rising costs.
Oswaldo Betancort, the president and councillor for Agriculture and Livestock, pointed out that local farmers and ranchers face significantly higher expenses than their counterparts in other regions, primarily due to the unique challenges posed by the islands’ geographical isolation and the overall increase in prices.
The agricultural funding will cover expenses such as materials and supplies, including soil, fertilisers, seeds, and the costs of transportation, machinery, technical advice, and staff hiring.
The livestock funding will assist with operational expenses, notably animal feed, water transport, electricity, staff costs, and other related expenses.
Applications for the grants will be accepted once they are officially published in the Official Gazette of Las Palmas, with a 15-day window for submissions. The Insular Agrarian Service will announce the opening of these applications through its official WhatsApp channel.
