Haría Mayor Reiterates Distrust of Cabildo President Over Water and Renewable Issues
Alfredo Villalba, the Mayor of Haría, has expressed his continued distrust of Oswaldo Betancort, the President of the Cabildo, regarding local water management and the Renewable Acceleration Zones (ZAR). Speaking on Crónicas Radio, Villalba dismissed recent complaints from the Compromiso Por Haría (CXH) party as mere “tantrums” due to their current lack of government roles.
Villalba challenged CXH to take legal action if they believe irregularities exist in his administration, emphasising that recent procedures mirror practices from when CXH were part of the government. He noted that many invoices recently approved were from projects overseen during their term.
Regarding election tactics, Villalba claimed that CXH is simply attempting to muddy the waters as the election period approaches. He invited them to report any alleged misconduct instead of merely complaining.
On the topic of ongoing water shortages, he maintained that previous promises from the Cabildo amount to empty rhetoric. Villalba insisted that residents are tired of unfulfilled commitments and highlighted that despite recent government claims, the situation remains dire.
The Mayor also referred to concerns raised by the Independent Workers’ Union (CSIF) about safety during local festivities, asserting that police coverage is adequate. He indicated that further updates on local security matters would be forthcoming in the next couple of months.
Finally, Villalba reiterated his scepticism regarding the Cabildo’s management of water crisis measures and the allocation of budgetary resources for urgent repairs, stating, “The local community is fed up with words that do not translate into action.”
