Man Arrested for Embezzlement in Fuerteventura
On 17 July, the Civil Guard in Las Palmas arrested a man in Fuerteventura on charges of ongoing embezzlement, fraud, and document forgery.
The investigation began after a complaint was filed regarding significant amounts of valuable hydraulic equipment missing from a company. A subsequent inventory check by an external firm revealed initial losses of €153,825.67, attributed to the detained individual, who worked for the company.
The suspicions arose when an administrator from the company, which is based on another island, visited the premises for commercial activities due to the suspect’s sick leave. She noticed discrepancies between the sales records and the actual stock.
Abusing the trust placed in him by the business owners, the suspect’s main method involved forging warranties, invoices, and delivery notes to sell products at much lower prices than usual, collecting cash payments.
As part of the investigation, security footage was reviewed, numerous financial documents were analysed, instant messaging was examined, and statements were taken from several clients. The operation concluded with the suspect’s arrest, who has since been handed over to the Court of First Instance in Puerto del Rosario.
