Heatwave Continues in the Canary Islands
The Canary Islands will experience continued high temperatures this Saturday, with inland areas reaching up to 32°C, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
On 4 July 2026, the forecast indicates cloudy skies along coastal regions early in the day, while the rest of the archipelago will see partly cloudy conditions. As the morning progresses, the clouds are expected to disperse, leading to clearer skies in many areas.
Temperatures will rise slightly, particularly in inland regions. In Santa Cruz de Tenerife province, temperatures will peak at about 31°C in Tenerife, while El Hierro will see minimums around 19°C.
Winds will generally be light from the north-west in the morning, becoming moderate in the afternoon. Strong gusts are possible later in the evening, particularly in the far north-east and south-west of the islands. Mountainous areas will experience moderate southerly winds.
Gran Canaria: Morning Cloud Clearing
Gran Canaria will start the day with cloudy skies along the coast, but this will clear by midday. In the north, however, cloudy intervals may return at night, especially in trade-wind areas.
Temperatures will rise slightly, especially in inland areas and mid-altitude zones, reaching 30°C to 32°C on south- and west-facing slopes. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will remain milder, with temperatures between 22°C and 26°C due to the sea and trade winds.
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura: Cloudy at First, Then Clear
In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, coastal areas will be cloudy in the morning, particularly on the northern and western sides. However, by midday, conditions are set to improve, leading to clearer skies.
Temperatures will likewise increase slightly, with some interior areas possibly hitting 30°C to 32°C.
Winds Strengthening Later
The winds will remain light from the north-west early in the day but are expected to strengthen in the evening. Higher altitudes will see moderate southerly winds, contributing to rising temperatures.
Overall, Saturday promises a mix of early coastal cloud, warmer inland temperatures, and moderate winds. Although the most intense heat from the recent heatwave is not anticipated, summer conditions are expected to persist, particularly inland and on south- and west-facing slopes across the Canary Islands.
